Governance Officer Opportunity

We are seeking a Governance Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting and strengthening the Club’s governance framework. This is a distinctive position offering real ownership, autonomy and influence.

Working closely with the Trustees, Main Committee, principal sub-committees and Senior Leadership Team, you will be the trusted expert ensuring governance processes run smoothly, compliantly and effectively across the organisation.

Whether you’re an experienced governance professional or a sharp, inquisitive individual looking to deepen your expertise, this role offers exposure, responsibility and the chance to make a tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Acting as the central point of expertise for governance, compliance and rule implementation
  • Supporting Trustees, Committees and sub-committees with high-quality governance and secretariat services
  • Advising on governance matters, committee structures and best practice
  • Keeping abreast of relevant legislation and regulatory developments, recommending updates as required
  • Coordinating committee elections and appointments with fairness and transparency
  • Establishing and managing the annual governance cycle across the organisation
  • Planning, preparing and distributing agendas, board packs, papers and reports
  • Drafting governance papers for Committee consideration
  • Attending key meetings, producing accurate and timely minutes and tracking actions
  • Maintaining governance records, ensuring confidentiality and data protection compliance
  • Managing and updating the governance section of the Club’s website
What You’ll Bring
  • Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Confidence building relationships across departments, senior leaders and members
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong IT capability (Microsoft 365) and experience with CRM or database systems
  • A proactive, adaptable and professional approach
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team
  • Previous experience in governance, membership organisations or private members’ clubs is desirable but not essential. What matters most is curiosity, judgement, discretion and a desire to contribute at a high level.
Working Pattern & Reward
  • Full time or part time considered
  • Hybrid working, with one work-from-home day per week (additional flexibility considered)
  • Monthly evening committee meetings and occasional out-of-hours commitments
  • Salary circa £50,000 FTE (40-hour week)
