Job Title: GIS Architect (Contract)

Location: Wokingham (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

Contract Length: 6 Months

Rate: Market Rate

About the Role

We are supporting a leading UK-based organisation on a high-impact transformation programme and are seeking an experienced GIS Architect to lead the design and delivery of a modern, cloud-based geospatial platform.

This role is pivotal in consolidating legacy GIS systems, enabling advanced spatial analytics, and supporting strategic planning across energy, environmental, and economic domains.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and own the end-to-end architecture of a scalable, secure GIS platform aligned to strategic objectives
  • Define GIS architecture principles, technology stack, and system integration patterns
  • Design and provision Azure environments (Sandbox, Dev, UAT, Production)
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure meets high availability, scalability, and security standards
  • Lead migration and integration from legacy GIS platforms (e.g. Intergraph, Smallworld)
  • Establish GIS data governance, metadata standards, and data quality frameworks
  • Enable advanced geospatial analytics, modelling, and visualisation capabilities
  • Support agile delivery through stakeholder workshops and iterative development
  • Provide technical documentation, knowledge transfer, and production hypercare
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Engineering, or similar
  • 10+ years’ experience in solution or technical architecture
  • 5+ years specialising in GIS platforms and geospatial systems
  • Strong Azure cloud and DevOps experience
  • Hands‑on knowledge of GIS technologies (ESRI, QGIS, FME, GeoServer)
  • Experience migrating from legacy GIS platforms (Intergraph, Smallworld)
  • Exposure to AI / ML applications in geospatial analytics or data quality
  • Agile delivery experience and ability to lead cross‑functional teams
