About the Role

Prospero Teaching is seeking dedicated Functional Skills English and Maths Tutors to deliver 1:1 personalised learning sessions to young people in Manchester who are currently not attending mainstream school. As an Outreach Tutor, you will design and deliver bespoke learning plans focused on bridging gaps in English and Maths (Functional Skills), helping learners re‑engage with education and rebuild confidence. This role is ideal for experienced educators looking to move away from the traditional classroom setting in favour of a more flexible and student‑focused approach.

Many of the students you’ll support may have been out of education for some time, and you’ll play a key role in reintroducing structure and motivation into their learning routines. You’ll be supported by Prosperos experienced team who will help monitor student progress and provide guidance throughout the placement.

Key Details
  • Location: Manchester (and surrounding areas if willing to travel)
  • Type: Part‑time (10-15 hours per week)
  • Sessions: Typically 1 to 3 hours per student
  • Duration: Ongoing, based on student needs
  • Start: Immediate start available
  • Contract: Temporary (with potential for extension)
Requirements
  • Teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent)
  • Minimum 6 months experience teaching or tutoring in UK schools
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills (English and/or Maths)
  • A child workforce enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
  • Two recent, relevant references
  • Right to work in the UK
Desirable
  • Up‑to‑date Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete one via Prospero)
  • Experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or those excluded from school
