Forensic Engineer/ Collision Investigator

Department: Claims Management

Description

Working as part of a small team the role involves investigating and reconstructing road traffic collisions and producing Court compliant reports. Investigations will typically involve:

  • Examination of vehicles, images, and documentation and use of traditional collision investigation techniques to consider issues of liability, damage consistency, fraud, and claims validation.
  • Reading and analysing vehicle data
  • Documentary evidence reviews, witness statements, police reports etc
  • Literature reviews and consideration of published research
  • Preparing detailed and technically accurate reports.

As an expert witness, court attendance may be necessary as well as meetings and discussions with clients and barristers.

We receive instructions from solicitors, insurance companies, manufacturers and the general public.

The role is office (Preston) or home based.

What will your day look like:
  • The objective of the role is to produce impartial, accurate and comprehensive reports to assist the Court in understanding collision magnitudes, fraud concerns, liability disputes etc.
  • To also assist in pre-litigation investigation via the provision of advice as an expert advisor, to assist clients in early identification of concerns, cases warranting further investigation and case settlement.
  • Work alongside GBB’s team of experts and engage in experience and knowledge sharing and the continuation of the company’s in‑house research projects.
Knowledge and Abilities:

The role will be open to individuals who either demonstrate the qualifications and ability to carry out the role with the appropriate training, or to those who already have the necessary experience to satisfy the requirements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering, science, or physics‑related discipline or demonstration of the equivalent level of learning.
  • Can demonstrate a practical knowledge of collision investigation and experience in a relevant field.
  • Hold a full clean driving licence (category B)

Desirable Qualifications or willingness to achieve:

  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer Status (e.g., MIET, IEng, CEng, or industry‑specific recognition such as MITAI)
  • Specific Collision Investigation Qualifications (UCPD, Cert HE or equivalent)
  • Full driving licence with additional category endorsements obtained through further training
