Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a qualified Food Safety Officer to join a local authority in the East Midlands on a full-time hybrid contract. This role involves managing food safety and health & safety enforcement casework. The ideal candidate will have a relevant Environmental Health qualification and experience in food safety enforcement. The position offers flexibility between remote and on-site work, with a pay rate of £30-£40 per hour, and is contract-based for 6 months.

Qualifications

  • Proven competency for food establishment inspections (Cluster 4).
  • 10 hours of Food Core CPD aligned with the Food Law Code of Practice.
  • Experience in food safety enforcement within a local authority setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of food establishments as per Cluster 4.
  • Manage food safety and health & safety enforcement casework.
  • Ensure compliance with the Food Safety Act and Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Efficiently handle complex correspondence and documentation.

Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified Food Safety Officer to join a local authority in the East Midlands on a full-time hybrid contract. This role involves managing food safety and health & safety enforcement casework, with flexibility across remote and on-site work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead inspections of food establishments in accordance with Cluster 4 competencies.
  • Manage a full range of food safety and health & safety enforcement casework.
  • Ensure compliance with the Food Safety Act and Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Handle complex correspondence and documentation efficiently.
  • Meet deadlines and align work with Council objectives.
  • Attend site visits and office meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of inspections and enforcement actions.
Qualifications / Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrated competency for food establishment inspections (Cluster 4).
  • Minimum of 10 hours of Food Core CPD aligned with the Food Law Code of Practice.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and health & safety legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
Essential
  • Environmental Health qualification.
  • Experience in food safety enforcement within a local authority setting.
Desirable
  • Previous hybrid working experience.
  • Familiarity with council procedures and reporting systems.
