Flexible Cleaning Operative – Balerno Community High School

Salary: £25,322 - £25,623 (pro rata for part time). Hours: 20 per week, 52 weeks, Monday – Friday 4pm–8pm.

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you'll be a key member of the Facilities Management team, delivering a vital cleaning service across our estate to ensure our properties are safe and clean places to work or learn.

Major Tasks / Job Activities

• Empty litter and recycling bins.
• Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within one or more buildings.
• Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers and replenish washroom consumables.
• Provide emergency and reactive cleaning as required (e.g., remove graffiti, body fluid spillages, accidental spillages).
• Maintain cleanliness of all equipment used for the above duties.
• Support cleaning tasks across other buildings as reasonably required.
• Deliver to the cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement to meet agreed standards.
• Hold keys to enable opening and closing of buildings, including operation of security alarm systems, closing accessible windows and doors, switching off lights, and ensuring premises are left safe and secure.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If you have spent ≥3 months abroad in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check is required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement will be subject to both checks being satisfactory.
