Job summary

Job Title: Finance Officer

Contract: Temporary until April 2026

Hours: Monday -Friday, 8.30am – 4.00pm

Salary: £28,366 (pro-rata)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Finance Officer to support the efficient day-to-day financial operations within a busy school environment. You will play a key role in processing purchase orders, invoices, staff expenses, and income, as well as contributing to year-end financial preparation.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider school community, you will help ensure the smooth running of all financial processes, supporting accuracy, transparency, compliance, and excellent service across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Administration
  • Process purchase orders and accounts payable invoices.
  • Maintain accurate financial records within the school’s accounting and management systems.
  • Manage school fund and education fund records.
  • Handle accounts payable queries from staff and suppliers.
  • Set up new suppliers and staff within the accounting system.
  • Prepare payment runs (BACS, cheques, debit card, direct debits).
  • Process ParentPay items, income reports, and parent/carer payments.
  • Chase outstanding debts and overdue parent payments.
  • Maintain orderly financial filing to audit standards.
  • Support banking tasks, including depositing income.
  • Process monthly photocopying/printing charges and key journals.
Requirements:
  • Strong administrative and ICT skills.
  • Financial knowledge and experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with systems such as SIMS, FMS, Tali, and ParentPay (desirable).
  • Ability to develop and improve administrative processes.
