Overview

Astute's Power Team is partnering with a leading Engineering and Industrial Solutions Sub-Contractor operating in the Power Generation, Utilities, Petrochemical and Heavy Industry sector. We are looking for a Finance Director to drive profitable growth and support major projects across the South East of England.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for:

• Lead all finance functions: budgeting, forecasting, management accounts, cash flow, audit, and financial compliance.
• Provide board-level strategic advice to enable sustainable, profitable growth across Mechanical & Electrical operations, projects, workshops, and 24/7 breakdown services.
• Partner with operations, projects, commercial and engineering teams to ensure financial rigour across project bids, contracts, cost control and performance management.
• Ensure robust risk management, systems, and internal controls; optimize processes for improved efficiency and transparency.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team; foster a high-performance culture aligned with the company\'s values of reliability, professionalism, and doing things the right way.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with strong experience in engineering, utilities, power generation or similar heavy industries.
• Ideally qualified with a relevant Business or Finance degree

Personal skills

The Finance Director position would suit someone who has:

• Proven track record as a senior finance leader - ideally having held a Finance Director role in a project-led or 24/7 operational environment.
• Excellent commercial awareness: project finance, contract management, cost estimation, project margin improvement.
• Strong systems mindset; comfortable with financial systems, ERP, and data analysis to inform decision making.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to influence across all levels, from shop-floor engineers to the Board.
