Overview

As our Finance and Data Lead, you will be at the core of a service that manages over 230,000 tonnes of waste a year, with an annual net revenue budget of £45m. These high-value contracts shape how waste is collected, treated, and reduced across Wiltshire. These services also have a significant and tangible role to play in helping tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on financial planning, forecasting, and performance reporting, ensuring business decisions are backed by solid data and insight.
  • Spot trends, understand the impact of changes in waste tonnage, and help us stay ahead of legislative shifts while maximising new income opportunities.
  • Work closely with senior leaders, providing advice that shapes strategy and policy.
  • From analysing tonnage data to validating invoices and preparing reports for Cabinet, contribute to decision-making that impacts the council, Wiltshire residents, and the environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the council and external partners; relationship-building is key.
  • Some evening and weekend work is part of the role; PPE is required when visiting operational sites.
