Field Process Scientist – Overview

We are recruiting for a Field Process Scientist. This regional role is based in Worcester with travel required within Worcestershire and Gloucestershire to support Sewage Treatment Works across the area. The compensation package includes a base salary of £37,314, a car allowance of £48,000 per annum, an annual bonus of up to £2,250, 28 days leave plus 8 bank holidays, progressive pay increases and a comprehensive benefits programme. You will work out and about, helping operational teams to better understand, improve and troubleshoot sewage treatment processes, making a direct impact on river water quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to different sites across the region to support operational teams and analyse site performance data.
  • Use a data‑driven approach to identify issues, investigate root causes of sample limit breaches and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Translate performance data into actionable insights for operational teams and the wider business, acting as a bridge between technical and operational staff.
  • Support capital projects, contributing to commissioning plans, signing off documentation and providing technical advice during project delivery (5‑10% of time).
  • Play a key part in compliance‑improvement initiatives and share learnings across the wider team.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Knowledge of sewage and sludge treatment processes is desirable but not essential; a strong problem‑solving mindset and stakeholder influence skills are paramount.
  • Experience in effective problem solving and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to present complex scientific principles clearly and concisely.
  • A proactive, positive, team‑player attitude with a caring approach to work.
  • A scientific, operational or waste‑process background is advantageous but an active, driven approach to learning and development is critical for success.
