Job description
Overview

We are seeking an electrically skilled engineer for our client based at their workshop in Swindon and in the field covering Oxford, Reading, Swindon and surrounding areas. This is a full-time, permanent role with no shift work. The hours are Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 16:30 and Friday 08:30 - 15:30.

The Company

Established over 45 years ago, our client works with companies across the UK and Ireland to help protect the health of employees within their workplace by monitoring environmental conditions and offering reliable gas detection equipment as a critical safety element. Working across private and public sectors, the company serves customers from SMEs to some of the world’s most recognisable brands, from construction to offshore, motorsport to museums. The company is known for its commitment to quality, safety and innovation. They are expanding their service team and looking for engineers who want to be part of a supportive environment where development and expertise are prioritised.

The Role

This position presents a unique opportunity to join a friendly team as a valued member within a company at the forefront of Fixed Gas Detection (FGD) Technology, offering structured training, long-term progression and the chance to work on advanced safety systems across diverse sites that provide real scope to grow your skills. The wide-ranging B2B customer base includes SMEs through to some of the world’s most recognisable brands, from construction to offshore, motorsport to museums.

Within this role, you will look after customers who need permanently installed systems operating 24/7 to monitor a variety of gas risk. The team’s remit includes initial site surveys, system design, installation, commissioning, handover and ongoing servicing and maintenance. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Field-based installation, occasional repair and preventive maintenance of FGD systems
  • Fault-finding and troubleshooting on detectors, sounders and control panels

Working onsite and in the Swindon workshop, you’ll manage your own daily schedule, fully supported by an in-house team. The ability to travel within the UK as a key part of the role and overnight stays may sometimes be required (accommodation will be provided).

The Person

For this position we are seeking someone with experience in Service and Maintenance Engineering who is looking to take the next step in their career within a specialist business that has a reputation for excellence and investment in its people. We are open to considering candidates who have worked with Burglar, Fire Alarm Systems and other building management systems and who ideally have a good understanding of cabling infrastructure.

Ideally we are seeking someone with experience in fixed gas detection installation and maintenance; however, we will also consider someone in a similar role with transferable skills and electrical competence who would like to take the next step and upskill while boosting earnings with guaranteed overtime. Due to the nature of this role, a full driving licence is required.

Details

This role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. You may be required to travel further afield to cover absence from time to time, and overnight stays may be required from time to time. The working hours are Monday – Thursday 8:00 – 16:30 and Friday 08:30 – 15:30.

The salary is competitive, and the package will include a Company Van + Fuel Card + Overtime + Expense Account. You will also have an expense account and accommodation will be paid for if an overnight stay is required. There may be an opportunity to earn overtime too.
