Job summary

A compassionate care organization is seeking a caring and experienced individual to support a young adult with autism and epilepsy. Responsibilities include personal care, meal preparation, and responding to seizures. Ideal candidates should have empathy, flexibility, and preferably hold an NVQ 3 or Care Certificate. Training in specific areas will be provided. Position requires adherence to safety and confidentiality protocols.

Qualifications

  • Must have experience supporting individuals with epilepsy and following care plans.
  • Required training in First Aid, Epilepsy, and Moving and Handling.
  • Flexibility in hours is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to any seizures with first aid and administer emergency medication.
  • Support personal care like toileting and bathing.

Job description
Overview

A content young, non verbal, adult male who is autistic, routine oriented, has epilepsy and learning disabilities. He is noise sensitive. Requires a caring, experienced team player to join our team.


Responsibilities


  • He has epilepsy and seizures can be unpredictable. You alongside the other carer present will be responsible for responding to any seizures with first aid, moving and handling and administering emergency medication on the rare occasion it is needed., Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.

  • Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.

  • Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.

  • Assist with household chores and general homemaking.

  • Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.

  • Supporting young man's health, wellbeing and support needs.

  • Monitoring/supporting when going up/down stairs, walking around the home and garden. PPE is worn and lateral flows weekly.

  • Only candidates over the legal age should apply for this position as you will be required to administer medication. The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required. You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

  • Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.

  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.

  • Previous caring experience is not essential, however you should have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals.

  • Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.

  • Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.

  • Must have experience supporting individuals with epilepsy and following care plans.

  • The applicant must have quick responses in case of any seizures.

  • A caring individual who will support and care for our son in a person-centred way.


Training & Requirements


  • Required Training: Successful candidates are required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to the role.

  • Moving and Handling. Training will be provided by the employer.

  • First Aid. Training will be provided by the employer.

  • Epilepsy. Training will be provided by the employer.

  • Preferred qualification of NVQ 3 or Care Certificate.

  • Must have experience and/or training in Epilepsy and Autism. Food hygiene. Renewed training can be given during Probation.


Schedule


  • Tuesday, 6.45am-5pm

  • Sunday, One fixed Sunday shift a month 9.30am-2pm.
