Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced Qualified Social Worker with extensive Child Protection, Family Support and Court experience to join a Private Sector Court-focused organisation. Cafcass is seeking Family Court Advisers. This role is based in Plymouth. Long-term contracts with competitive pay up to £37.75ph. Flexible working from home has historically been offered for these roles.

Cafcass is a non-departmental public body for England set up to safeguard and promote the welfare of children involved in family court proceedings. It was formed on 1 April 2001 under the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 and is accountable to Parliament through the Ministry of Justice. Cafcass is independent of the courts, social services, education and health authorities and similar agencies.

Cafcass looks after the interests of children involved in family proceedings. It works with children and their families, and then advises the courts on what it considers to be in the children’s best interests. Cafcass operates only in family courts.

Responsibilities
  • In the Private Law teams, work as a Children’s Social Worker (professionally called a Family Court Adviser).
  • Engage in cases where families need assistance to agree on the best welfare and safety arrangements for the child(ren).
  • Involve the local authority when Cafcass is appointed due to serious concerns, and conduct robust risk assessments and mediation to advocate for the child(ren)’s best interests.
  • Conduct assessments and directly engage with children to understand and represent their views and wishes to the court.
  • Collaborate to ensure the child’s welfare and safety considerations guide court recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Social Work England registered.
  • Driver with access to own car (desirable).
  • Ability to reside and work in the UK.
