The successful candidate will be subject to a DBS Check at the level appropriate to the role, the cost of which is covered by the hospice. Any post holder within the organisation will be expected to undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures. All staff must work in accordance with their statutory roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding in accordance with the Working Together to Safeguarding Children 2023, The Care Act 2014, and Prevent Duty 2015.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Events Assistant to support the delivery of a vibrant fundraising events programme for Moya Cole Hospice. This is a rewarding opportunity to develop your events and fundraising experience while making a meaningful difference to those with life-limiting illness and their loved ones.

You will work as part of a supportive and passionate team, gaining hands‑on experience delivering a wide range of events, building valuable skills in event management, supporter care and communications, and contributing directly to the income that enables the hospice to provide outstanding care to those who need it at a difficult time in their lives.

You will support the planning, promotion and delivery of hospice-owned and third‑party fundraising events, helping to ensure they are well organised, safely delivered and provide a positive experience for supporters, participants and volunteers. The role also supports other fundraising activity, including memorial services and seasonal on‑site events.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist the Events Lead in planning, coordinating, and delivering hospice and third‑party fundraising events
  • Provide excellent supporter care, responding to enquiries promptly and professionally to build strong relationships
  • Promote local, national, and international challenge events to recruit participants and maximise fundraising income
  • Manage event administration, including registrations, communications, database updates, post‑event follow‑up, and sending fundraising materials
  • Support on‑the‑day event delivery, ensuring health and safety and a positive experience for participants and volunteers (including some evenings and weekends)
  • Coordinate and transport event materials, merchandise, and equipment
  • Work with the communications team to promote events across digital and print channels
  • Maintain accurate participant data and communications in Raisers Edge
  • Contribute ideas for new events and help review event performance
Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience (paid or voluntary) supporting or delivering events
  • Strong organisational, communication and IT skills (Office 365, CRM/donor management databases)
  • A proactive, well‑organised approach with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills and a genuine enjoyment of working with people
  • A flexible, supportive team player willing to help colleagues when needed
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) fundraising best practice, charity law and event health and safety requirements
  • Ability to travel across the hospice catchment area, including transporting event equipment (access to a car is essential for this role)
