Job summary

A healthcare organization is seeking a Maintenance Specialist to manage the reliability of building maintenance and engineering infrastructure. The role involves guiding Estates operatives to ensure compliance with legislation and managing upkeep of grounds. Key responsibilities include planning maintenance activities and co-ordinating safety and quality of work. Required qualifications include a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and significant experience in a similar role. This position is based in Bognor Regis and may require participation in an on-call rota.

Job summary

As a Maintenance Specialist, the post holder will manage the reliability of building maintenance, engineering infrastructure, systems and equipment. This includes guiding and supporting Estates operatives to ensure compliance with legislation, local policy and best practice, and managing the upkeep of Estates Grounds and Gardens.

The post holder is accountable to the Head of Estates Operations for areas such as Lifting Equipment Regulations, Low Voltage Electrical Safety, Medical Gases, Critical Ventilation, Legionella and Water Systems, and will assume authorised person responsibilities.

Visa Eligibility

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications & Professional Registration
  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction or significant in‑depth experience in related disciplines.
  • Post‑graduate or post‑registration qualification or significant in‑depth experience.
Desirable Training
  • Relevant Eastwood Park (or alternative) training: Ventilation & Air Conditioning, Boiler House Practices, Lift Safety, LV AP, BMS systems, Portable Appliance Testing, Water Hygiene, Electrical Test & Inspection, BS2391 or equivalent, Hydro/Therapy Pool Management.
Experience
  • Significant experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of using computers.
  • Managing fault diagnosis and repair of engineering plant and equipment including lighting, power systems, standby generators, HVAC, portable appliances, domestic appliances and other associated electric building services plant and equipment.
  • Mentoring role experience and training programme experience in a hospital/healthcare environment.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
  • Diagnose faults and effect repairs to electrical plant and equipment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly skilled in the use of hand and powered tools.
  • Current driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Fundamental IT skills and time‑management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act and of alarm and lifting equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of risk assessments.
Desirable Skills
  • Ability to carry out and record risk assessments.
  • Intermediate knowledge of fire alarm systems, lifts, lifting equipment and electronics.
  • Knowledge of Legionella control and prevention.
Other Requirements
  • Prepared to participate in the Estates out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.
  • Understanding of service delivery and relationships with colleagues.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service check; subject to Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
