Job description

Role: Estates and Facilities Assistant

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus

Salary: Between £25,467 and £28,482 per annum DOE. 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, people’s pension, retail and leisure discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, and access to college courses.

Hours: 40 hours per week – 52 weeks per year.

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time.

This is a UK based contract. You must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not offered. Evidence of your right to work in the UK will be required.

About the role

We are seeking an Estates and Facilities Assistant to join The Bedford College Group’s Estates and Facilities department.

As an Estates and Facilities Assistant, you play an important part in supporting students through:

  • Maintain Security & Safety – Patrol premises, monitor CCTV, manage alarms, enforce codes of conduct, and ensure compliance with safeguarding and health & safety standards.
  • Deliver Building & Grounds Maintenance – Perform minor repairs, maintain plant and equipment, clear drains and gutters, and keep grounds tidy and safe in all weather conditions.
  • Provide Operational Support – Manage car parks, complete portering tasks, set up rooms for events, and handle cleaning duties outside contracted hours.
  • Support Compliance & Statutory Checks – Conduct fire alarm and legionella testing, maintain records, and report defects promptly.
  • Flexibility & Team Contribution – Drive college vehicles, supervise external facility use, provide campus cover (including weekends), and assist with marketing and events.
About you
  • Essential Qualifications – GCSE Maths & English (A–C or equivalent), willingness to undertake training, and first aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience & Knowledge – Working with the public and young people, handling varied situations, and basic understanding of procedures and health & safety.
  • Core Skills – Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow instructions, defuse difficult situations calmly, and maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Professional Attributes – Proactive, reliable, punctual, responsible attitude toward health & safety, and alignment with college values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty).
  • Flexibility & Mobility – Full clean driving licence, access to a vehicle, ability to work across sites, provide weekend cover, and respond at short notice when required.
