Job description

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors have become a central component of HL's strategy, encompassing the firm's operations, how we interact with the community around us and the decisions we make as an investor. Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) are recruiting for an ESG Analyst to join the ESG Analysis team, which operates as a Centre of Excellence whose skills are drawn upon by teams across the firm. The role will deliver high quality equity‑focused ESG analysis, and make a major contribution to continuing and expanding HL's engagement function. The role will also assist in the creation of new tools to help clients invest responsibly, as well as assisting the HL Equity Research team and the HL Fund Managers where required. The work of the ESG Analyst, combined with that of the wider ESG Analysis team, will help to establish HL as the go‑to destination for responsible investors.

What you'll be doing
  • Carrying out detailed company and industry‑level ESG analysis.
  • Building strong relationships and conducting meetings with companies and other external stakeholders to increase the likelihood of successful engagement.
  • Building on our current approach to engagement and expanding engagement coverage.
  • Writing investment content including specialist articles for the website and the Investment Times, and fund updates for HL clients.
  • Contributing to the creation of new tools and services to help clients invest responsibly.
  • Providing support and technical assistance to other parts of the business, including HL Fund Managers, HL Workplace and the HL Financial Advice team.
Qualifications and experience
  • Understanding of key environmental, social and governance issues and opportunities.
  • Good knowledge of responsible investment approaches, personal finance and investment.
  • Aware of ESG regulation (both upcoming and already implemented).
  • Hold or be working towards the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing and the CFA Certificate in Climate and Investing.
  • Strong client focus – constantly thinking of ways to improve our research and our ESG‑related tools and services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Location and contract

This role is based in Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. It is permanent, full‑time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday). We have returned to the office; however this role offers a hybrid flexible working pattern to enable you the option of working from home and coming into the office.
