The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Would you like to join the Tayside Neurological Nursing Service providing specialist nursing care and services to people with a neurological condition in Tayside?

An exciting opportunity is available to join the specialist nurse team within the neurology service. We are looking for an experienced individual to join our interdisciplinary team, delivering a patient-centred, flexible and responsive service which provides specialist knowledge and support primarily for people living with epilepsy. The post holder will be primarily responsible for the population living with epilepsy within the acute service.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will play a key role in raising clinical standards of care and quality of life for patients living with epilepsy, providing specialist advice, information and support to empower them to manage their own condition as much as possible and facilitate delivery of best practice to maximise their choices and independence.
  • The post holder is an autonomous healthcare specialist who, whilst working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, is responsible for providing specialist clinical expertise, information and support to people living with epilepsy, their family/carers and multi-disciplinary health and social care professionals.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a clinical caseload of patients requiring specialist nursing care, in an out-patient and in-patient capacity, providing advice, information and psychosocial support to meet complex needs. You will support and educate other members of the wider team and will be able to liaise with other team members and agencies concerned with the management of patients with complex needs.
  • The role of the Epilepsy Nurse Specialist is potentially wide-ranging with opportunities in education, research, service development, innovative practice, in acute in-patient care and in specialist clinics across Tayside.
  • The Specialist Nurse will complement and augment care offered by nursing and medical staff, actively addressing issues that could negatively impact on the patients’ pathway, enhancing the responsiveness and efficiency of care provision and the overall quality of patient care.
  • The post holder will receive support, training and development in the epilepsy service, which seeks to innovate and strives for excellence in delivering first-class patient care.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • A First level registered nurse with relevant post registration qualification with excellent communication, organisational, teaching and change management skills. Previous experience of working with people living with epilepsy is essential.
  • Will possess a nursing degree and preferably proof of further education particular to epilepsy.
  • Experience as a band 5 or above and ideally have extensive post registration experience.
  • Ability to travel
