Job description

Tony Gee is seeking a lead appointment for development and delivery of environmental services across all sectors.

Role incorporates direct advice to projects, upskilling of existing staff and specifying and working with specialist sub-consultants.

Environmental Service Offering
  • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs):
    • Delivery: Managing the delivery and integration of EIA chapters produced by sub‑cons and in‑house teams.
    • Compliance: interpreting and integrating the EIA requirements into engineering deliverables.
    • Interface: Providing interface between in‑house leads for technical disciplines (including flood, contamination and transport).
  • Directly or via sub‑cons, manage delivery and integration of:
    • environmental consents and planning conditions, supported by technical leads as required.
    • ecology deliverables (identify and plan ecology surveys, interpret and report results, advise on integration of constraints into engineering deliverables / construction projects, including licensing processes and mitigation requirements).
  • Landscape architecture and arboricultural deliverables.
  • Advise on delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Nature Positive solutions.
Responsibilities

The role requires the candidate to act as an Environmental Services Discipline Manager, taking responsibility for the punctual delivery of environmental services for projects to high‑quality standards in addition to achieving financial targets; the candidate must therefore possess effective managerial experience, including supply chain management, and suitable technical expertise.

  • Review of technical deliverables produced in house or by supply chain across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Undertaking the role of Environmental Services Discipline Manager or Environmental Services Discipline Director on multi‑disciplinary projects that require it.
  • The day‑to‑day management, direction and training of staff whilst undertaking your project work.
  • Acting as a role model for others in the company.
  • Developing the relationship between the company and new and existing clients and identifying potential work.
  • Developing the relationship between the company and new and existing sub‑consultants and identifying potential partnering opportunities.
  • Co‑ordinating with other engineers / consultants across Tony Gee’s offices and delivery teams.
  • Managing and liaising with clients on proposals and project work.
  • Specifying and / or managing specialist environmental related services required to fulfil Tony Gee’s scope and undertakings to our clients.
  • For in house services, preparing fee budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projects under your control or reviewing proposals from sub‑consultants to ensure no scope gap.
  • Identifying and managing risks for the work under your control to agreed acceptable levels.
  • Support the Head of Sustainability in development and delivery of the relevant aspects of sustainability strategy.
  • Engage in promotional activities with industry events, networks and forums to raise the company profile.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Leading and developing teams and business sub‑units.
  • Independently scoping, managing and delivering environmental services commissions for a range of clients including Local Authorities, developers.
  • Experience with the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) regulations applicable within the UK.
  • Proven ability to interface with planning / engineering disciplines with regards environmental plans and impact assessment.
  • Detailed technical skills pertinent to scoping and managing environmental services undertaken by technical specialists.
  • Experience of producing / coordinating LEMPs, LBMPs, HMMPs and CEMPs.
  • Detailed technical skills pertinent to design and specification of a core EIA chapter discipline (ideally ecology or landscape architecture).
  • Liaison with direct stakeholders.
  • Liaison with relevant statutory bodies (e.g. Environment Agency, Natural England).
  • Track record of delivering environmental benefits including biodiversity net gain for clients.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Ability to manage time, people, budgets and risks.
  • Ability to manage a team to achieve deadlines.
  • Problem Solving.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with the planning process and delivery of planning applications.
  • Experience of Design and Build schemes, including supporting schemes through Construction.
  • Experience working with a range of forms of contract (e.g. NEC, ACE).
  • Understanding of related civil engineering disciplines preferred, including inter‑alia, structures, earthworks, highways, rail, landscape architecture.
  • Use and development of GIS mapping.
  • Knowledge of the BIM protocols in BS EN ISO 19650.
Qualifications
  • CEnv or equivalent with an appropriate institution (e.g. IEMA / ISEP, ICE, CIEEM, CIWEM).
  • 15+ years of experience.
