  • Degree or Diploma in Trading Standards / DCATS / Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship (or equivalent).
  • Professional registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or CIEH (for EHO roles).

  • Enforcing relevant Environmental Health and/or Trading Standards legislation.

Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in North Yorkshire is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer / Trading Standards Officer to join their Public Protection Service as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority regulatory environment.

The Role

The key purpose of the role is to deliver the statutory and regulatory functions of the Public Protection Service, ensuring the health, safety, and protection of the public through effective enforcement, advice, and service delivery.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Undertaking inspections, visits, investigations, and interventions in line with Public Protection priorities
  • Enforcing relevant Environmental Health and/or Trading Standards legislation
  • Interpreting legislation and providing professional advice, reports, and recommendations
  • Investigating complaints and responding to service requests from the public and stakeholders
  • Liaising with internal departments and external agencies to improve service delivery
The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require two to three of the following essential qualifications (depending on specialism):

  • BSc or MSc in Environmental Health accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or REHIS
  • Degree or Diploma in Trading Standards / DCATS / Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship (or equivalent)
  • Professional registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or CIEH (for EHO roles)

The below skills and experience would be beneficial for the role:

  • Experience working in a local authority Environmental Health or Trading Standards service
  • Knowledge of regulatory enforcement, inspections, and investigations
  • Experience across areas such as food safety, housing, environmental protection, product safety, or fair trading
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with the public and partner agencies

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £27 per hour Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35) (approx. £21 per hour PAYE).
