Secondary English Tutor

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary English Tutor to support young people through personalised one-to-one or small group learning programmes. This role focuses on delivering tailored English provision to re‑engage learners who may be outside of mainstream education, supporting both academic progress and confidence building.

You will work across a range of settings including community venues, homes, or educational environments, adapting your teaching approach to meet individual learner needs and ensure sessions are engaging, accessible, and purposeful.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver structured and engaging English sessions across KS3 KS4, tailored to individual learning needs and abilities
  • Plan and deliver creative, learner‑centred lessons that promote literacy, communication skills, and confidence
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support learners with SEND, including ASD/ASC, ADHD, and SEMH
  • Provide positive mentoring support, encouraging engagement, motivation, and emotional resilience
  • Support learners in developing key skills for future pathways, including GCSE preparation, further education, and employability
What You Bring / Essential
  • Proven experience delivering English tutoring at secondary level (KS3 KS4), including literacy development, reading comprehension, and written communication
  • Strong subject knowledge of the English curriculum, with the ability to adapt content to suit a range of abilities and learning styles
  • Experience planning and delivering individualised English lessons, including targeted intervention and exam preparation where appropriate
  • A patient, encouraging, and adaptable teaching style, particularly when supporting learners who may be disengaged or lack confidence
  • A current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
