Job description

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

Join our team as an Engineering Technical Specialist supporting the delivery of nationally significant Strategic Resource Options (SROs) – major water supply, transfer, treatment, and storage projects ranging from £150m to £1.5bn.

You’ll work alongside Engineering Technical Leads, Consultants, and Regulatory partners to develop innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions that shape water resilience, including engineering, operational, and costing strategies for both long‑term and emergency projects.

This is your chance to contribute to projects that will safeguard water and the environment for generations to come, while growing your career within one of the UK’s most forward‑thinking utilities.

Some of the other key accountabilities
  • Support the delivery of engineering packages for RAPID‑gated projects and other strategic resilience schemes
  • Contribute to the development of optioneering, feasibility, and outline design across civil, mechanical, process, and environmental disciplines
  • Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (including leading Consultants) to deliver high‑quality, technically robust and cost‑effective solutions
  • Help develop junior members of the wider team, fostering a culture of innovation and learning
  • Contribute to regulatory submissions and assurance processes, ensuring engineering quality and compliance with industry and Company standards
  • Support supplier engagement, contract administration (NEC), and risk management processes

You’ll be expected to work in the Midlands (England). You’ll work within our Engineering Team. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week. Flexible working from home is available, though travel to other sites will be required at times – a full UK driving licence is essential.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • Minimum of three years’ post graduate experience in multi‑disciplinary engineering projects (water industry experience desirable)
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts, risk management principles, and project delivery principles
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Degree in Engineering or Construction (or equivalent experience)
  • Working towards professional registration (IEng or CEng) is desirable, with support available to achieve it
  • A proactive, positive attitude and genuine interest in sustainable water infrastructure

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on the future of water supply while developing your career in a collaborative and forward‑thinking environment.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You’ll be building a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award‑winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 per annum based on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Award‑winning learning and development through our Severn Trent Academy
  • Electric vehicle scheme and a range of retail and lifestyle offers
  • Family‑friendly policies and two paid volunteering days per year
