Overview

Engineering Group Leader

We are currently seeking an Experienced Engineering Group Leader with extensive Subsea leadership experience inclusive of Trencher Vehicle, Cable lay operations, Cable Lay Vessel Equipment, and ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) equipment to join our dynamic and progressive team.

Responsibilities
  • Project technical scope owner.
  • Lead, guide and develop a cross-functional engineering team in delivering subsea cable lay technical solutions to meet the required project milestone ensuring quality and delivery schedule adherence.
  • Lead the entire project engineering scope, from design, structural analysis and project engineering support, ensuring technical signoff and appropriate validation and verification.
  • Provide necessary planning detailing required tasks and hours to meet project requirements. Update technical plan as required due to additional tasks, potential scope change and design modifications.
  • Responsible for engineering deliverables, designs, specifications, project method scopes and associated project timelines for subsea activities dependent on project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance, constructive feedback, and support to help engineers grow their skills and experience to develop professionally.
  • Support engineering function in identifying improvements in tools, standards, methods and best practices to elevate departmental performance. Offer and promote innovative solutions that enable the reduction of costs.
  • Strong understanding of subsea products, offshore operations, and related engineering disciplines such as design, materials, structural analysis, testing, power and electrical engineering.
  • Ability to lead and develop teams, providing guidance, skill development and support for professional growth.
  • Experience leading the technical part of the projects from conception to completion, including managing scopes, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Broad understanding of the subsea industry, including equipment, operations, and technical challenges.
  • Responsibility for full design lifecycle from concept to delivery; driving functional requirements, quality, and performance.
  • Conducting detailed analysis of design requirements, specifications, and project objectives to develop innovative mechanical design solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, operations team, suppliers, and clients to ensure the engineering solutions meet expectations and safety requirements.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations, assets, survey team, electrical engineers, naval architects, and systems engineers, to ensure seamless integration and compatibility of mechanical designs with other system elements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Courageous and innovative mindset, unafraid to challenge conventional thinking and propose novel ideas.
  • Capacity to priorities, plan, coordinate and communicate to enable successful delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, and manufacturing processes relevant to subsea technology, enabling a confident and justified compromise of performance and cost.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for marine systems and equipment. Experience designing for class approval of machinery and mechanical systems against Lloyd\'s or DNV-GL is beneficial.
  • Lead design reviews, testing and simulations to validate concepts and improve designs.
  • Conduct DFMEA, FMECA and support HAZOP, HAZID and safety by design reviews.
  • Participating in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT).

Education and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s or master\'s degree in a related engineering field.
  • Project Management Qualification such as APM, PMP or Prince.
  • Demonstratable experience of managing successful multi-disciplined engineering teams.
  • Good understanding of subsea regulatory standards and requirements such as DNV codes.

Desirable Qualifications or Equivalent Experience

  • Extensive experience within an offshore/subsea Technical Engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience in subsea engineering or related fields, specifically focusing on trenching tool design, cable lay equipment, cable lay operations and ROV equipment.
  • Familiarisation of DNV, ICPC, ESPCA and IMCA standards and guidance requirements.
  • Familiarisation of cable lay vessels.

Demonstrable Experience Specific to Role

  • From a lead design or lead project engineering background.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
