Job description

As an Engineer within the NEL (Nationwide Experience Language) UI team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital banking by delivering scalable, intuitive, and accessible interfaces for our applications. You’ll be part of our Digital Engineering function, contributing to the evolution and adoption of Nationwide’s inner‑source NEL component library – the foundation of our digital customer experience.

This secondment offers an excellent opportunity to broaden your engineering expertise, take on greater technical responsibility and influence the design and implementation of reusable UI components in a collaborative, innovative, and impact‑driven environment.

Behind our websites and applications sits our content management system, providing simple and efficient content authoring capabilities to our business. Working closely with our Marketing, Brand, and Product teams, you'll develop and optimise components, tools, and features that integrate seamlessly with our content management system. You'll deliver engaging experiences for our retail customers while creating streamlined solutions for brokers searching for the best mortgage deals and landlords managing their property portfolios.

You’ll be interacting with both classic and modern front‑end technologies to deliver new capabilities and features to our digital applications as well as working closely with senior engineers, designers, and cross‑functional teams to enhance and maintain reusable UI components that power a wide range of applications. In this role, you’ll contribute to technical decision‑making, support agile delivery, and help drive improvements in engineering practices across the team.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

This is a 6 month secondment opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you’ll be located at our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.
