Job summary

WSP is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to join the UK Energy team, delivering transmission projects that support Net Zero. You will design protection/control schemes, develop drawings, perform calculations and ensure compliance with standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

The role offers hybrid working across the UK, with opportunities to grow technically and take on influential projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards.
• Experience interpreting technical design documentation.
• Knowledge of main substation control equipment vendors (ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE).
• Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
• Preferable: Chartered engineer status in progress or attained.
• Preferable: National Grid BP141 Authorisation.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP.
• Perform technical calculations to ensure reliability and performance of protection and control systems.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
• Conduct site surveys and data collection for design purposes.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers and construction teams to integrate requirements into plans.
• Review and approve design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
• Conduct design reviews and quality assurance checks for accuracy and completeness.
• Stay updated with advancements in protection and control technology and practices.
