Job summary

WSP is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to deliver electrical power transmission projects within the UK Energy business. You will design protection and control systems, produce drawings using AutoCAD and ETAP, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure reliable performance and compliance.

The role offers hybrid working arrangements, career development, and opportunities to work on landmark projects across the UK.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards.
• Experience interpreting technical documentation relating to design.
• Knowledge and experience of working with main suppliers’ products of substation control equipment (ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE).
• Experience in main standard protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870.
• Preferable – Chartered engineer status.
• Preferable – National Grid BP141 Authorisation.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP.
• Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure reliability and performance of protection and control systems.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather data for design purposes.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and construction teams to integrate protection and control design requirements into project plans.
• Review and approve design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
• Conduct design reviews and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in protection and control technology and design practices.],
