Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to join the UK Energy team. You will work within a multidisciplinary group to deliver power transmission infrastructure that supports Net Zero, with exposure to over 300 km of overhead line design and development opportunities across the UK.

You will design protection and control schemes, develop drawings with AutoCAD and ETAP, perform calculations to ensure reliability, and ensure compliance with standards, safety regulations,

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards.
• Experience interpreting technical documentation relating to design.
• Knowledge of main suppliers’ substation control equipment (ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE).
• Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
• Chartered engineer status or working towards is preferred.
• National Grid BP141 Authorisation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission networks.
• Develop detailed drawings, specifications, and design documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP.
• Perform technical calculations to ensure reliability and performance.
• Ensure designs comply with standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
• Conduct site surveys and data collection for design purposes.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and construction teams.
• Review design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
• Conduct design reviews and QA checks to ensure accuracy.
• Stay updated with advancements in protection and control technology.
