Job summary

WSP is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to join the UK Energy team. You will design protection and control systems for power transmission networks, develop drawings using AutoCAD and ETAP, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on landmark projects.

Ideal candidates have HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, experience with IEC 61850/60870, and knowledge of major substation equipment brands. Hybrid working model and professional development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering required.
• Experience designing protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of electrical networks and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical design docs.
• Familiarity with main substation equipment brands (ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE).
• Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control systems for electrical transmission networks.
• Create detailed drawings and specs using AutoCAD and ETAP.
• Perform calculations to ensure reliability of protection systems.
• Ensure designs comply with standards, safety and environmental guidelines.
• Conduct site surveys and data collection for designs.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and construction teams.
• Review design modifications and support installation & commissioning.
• Conduct design reviews and QA checks.
• Stay updated with protection & control tech advancements.
