Job summary

WSP is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer within its UK Energy business to deliver power transmission projects supporting Net Zero goals. You will join a multidisciplinary team and work on landmark OHL and substation design challenges with access to latest tools such as AutoCAD and ETAP.

Qualifications

Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
Experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards.
Experience interpreting technical documentation relating to design.
Experience with main suppliers’ substation control equipment (ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE).
Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
Preferable – Chartered engineer status.
Preferable – National Grid BP141 Authorisation.

Responsibilities

Design protection and control schemes for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.
Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP.
Perform technical calculations to ensure reliability and performance of protection and control systems.
Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
Conduct site surveys and data gathering for design purposes.
Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers and construction teams to integrate requirements.
Review design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
Conduct design reviews and quality assurance checks.
