Electronics Engineer – Defence Systems
Location : Dorset Coast

If you are an experienced Electronics Engineer looking to make an impact in the fast‑paced defence industry then this could be a role for you. The successful candidate will work within a team of talented engineers designing cutting‑edge electronics solutions for high‑profile defence projects. You’ll play a key role in transforming system requirements into innovative designs, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The Role

This role requires you to take ownership of both the architectural and detailed design of electronics systems. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external partners to create solutions that are manufacturable, testable, and fully compliant with industry standards. Your work will extend from concept through to system integration, fault finding, and validation, providing you with broad exposure across the full lifecycle of defence electronics projects.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and deliver innovative electronic designs in line with system requirements.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers to implement successful design solutions.

Design for manufacture, testability, and smooth transition to production.

Integrate and validate systems, including troubleshooting at circuit and subsystem level.

Liaise with external test facilities to demonstrate compliance with UK and European standards, including CE / UKCA marking.

Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring safe working practices.

Produce accurate documentation, schematics, Bills of Materials, and change notes throughout the development lifecycle.

Provide technical support to project teams and occasionally travel offsite for installations or maintenance.

Requirements as Electronic Engineer

Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics or a related discipline.

Eligibility for UK Security Clearance is essential.

Full UK driving licence is desirable.

Strong background in both analogue and digital electronics design, including analogue signal conditioning and Design for EMC compliance.

Hands‑on experience across all stages of product design: specification, schematic capture, PCB layout, validation, verification, and change control.

Familiarity with regulatory compliance and qualification (UKCA / CE, EMC, Environmental, RoHS, Safety).

Proficiency with ECAD tools (Cadence OrCAD preferred).

Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to develop practical solutions.
