Job description
Electrical Test Engineers vacancy in Reading to Southampton (251DM)

This role is ideally suited to those with a background in electrical engineering who are seeking to apply their skills in a civilian environment. The client delivers electrical safety testing and compliance services across the UK, helping to keep workplaces safe and operational. You’ll work independently while still being part of a supportive and mission-focused team.

You’ll operate from your home base and surrounding areas, with some travel across the UK depending on operational needs.

Role Overview
  • As an Electrical Test Engineer, you’ll conduct inspection and testing on commercial electrical systems, primarily focusing on Distribution Boards.
  • The work demands precision, attention to detail, and a methodical approach.
  • Most work will be completed during normal working hours, though there may be occasional requirements for out-of-hours work depending on client access and site conditions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out electrical periodic inspection and testing of commercial installations (Fixed Wire Testing).
  • Complete and submit accurate NICEIC test reports for technical review.
  • Undertake minor remedial works when required.
  • Perform Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) as needed.
  • Work closely with the Technical Manager and Operations Team to ensure tasks are completed safely and to high standards.
  • Uphold safety standards and operate in full compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures.
Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Recognised electrical qualification (time-served preferred).
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent (2394 & 2395).
  • Proven ability to work safely and independently in accordance with regulations.
  • Strong understanding of BS 7671 and electrical safety standards.

  • Transferable electrical or engineering experience.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable working unsupervised.
  • Commitment to continual learning and professional development.
