Job summary

A leading water utility company in the UK seeks an experienced Electrical Technician to work at its water production sites. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical equipment, ensuring operational efficiency for more than 16 million customers. The ideal candidate should have a strong electrical background, NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering, and a valid UK driving licence. Job description
Overview

We seek an experienced Electrical Technician based at our water production sites in East Thames Valley.

As a successful candidate, you will use your electrical knowledge to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, ensuring that our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

Base Location: Speen WTW, Newbury RG14 1RT.

Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday-Friday 07:30 am - 3:30 pm, plus inclusion on a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.

All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a van when on duty and call.

You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always a top priority by complying with Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fixing these or escalating, planning maintenance of plant and equipment daily, and installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current standards and regulations.
  • Recording work and asset information to improve business performance, identifying possible future risks, and recommending changes in day-to-day work to raise resolution requirements.
  • Providing specialist technical advice with up-to-date knowledge, and coaching, training and developing staff under supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction, interacting with internal and external customers in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.
What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred, but training can be given.
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalate if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and maintain standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
