Job description

Role: Electrical Systems Engineering consultant

Location: Eaton Socon, Cambridgeshire PE19

Contract: 12 months+

Rate: Negotiable

Our client is building a team and requires two candidates who will be part of a multi-disciplined team conducting various studies from concept design to feasibility studies. Be responsible for the electrical system studies and design of the generation & distribution infrastructure operation philosophy.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Support sales team with early engagement with customers by understanding and interpreting customer needs and objectives.
  • Be creative, analytical, and flexible in generating designs and solutions and effectively communicating features and limitations of various solutions.
  • Ensure customer needs are understood and met from a FES perspective.
  • Document and share best practices and lessons learnt from projects
  • System Studies and Analysis – performing detailed power system studies including load flow, short circuit/fault level analysis, protection coordination, harmonic assessments, voltage regulation, and stability analysis using specialised software (e.g., ETAP, DIgSILENT, PowerFactory, PSCAD).
  • Design and Documentation – translating conceptual designs into detailed engineering design packages. This involves creating single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, equipment layouts, cable schedules, e-house layout, switchyard layout etc.
  • Compliance and Standards – ensure all designs strictly adhere to relevant national and international standards and grid codes.
  • Equipment Specification – Assist in preparation of technical specifications for primary plant items such as HV power transformers, switchgear (AIS and GIS), circuit breakers, protection relays, and cabling, ensuring they meet project and client specifications.
  • Collaboration and Liaison – Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams including automation engineers, telecoms engineers, technical advisors, sales managers, project engineers, and project managers.
  • Customer Focus – interpretation of Customer Needs into actionable solutions. Including consulting with clients, contractors, and network operators (DNOs/TOs/NGESO) throughout the project life cycle.
  • Proactively take feedback and knowledge from experience of project engineers in operations to team to ensure theoretical system design achievable and optimum for operations.
  • Work in close collaboration with the wider organisation – sale managers, sales TAs, bid managers, operations team, and management – locally and within the HUB.
  • Be able to present ideas and results effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
