Job description
Overview

Our client is one of the UK's most prestigious financial institutions, with a clear mission: to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people. With a diverse team of over 4,000 employees, the organisation is united by a commitment to public service and the promotion of national prosperity.

The Property Department, through its Infrastructure Engineering team, is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the Bank's built environment. This includes the delivery of resilient, high-quality engineering services that ensure business continuity and operational excellence.

Beyond supporting the Bank’s core functions, the department manages major capital investment projects and oversees a wide range of services, including strategic health and safety, facilities management (reception, help desk, catering, cleaning, post), and travel services. The mission is to maintain, enhance, and protect the Bank’s facilities—including all engineering systems—to ensure operational resilience across its estate.

The Engineering Team, made up of approximately 56 full-time staff, provides support across three critical sites, each housing a mix of office space, production environments, and data centre infrastructure. These require 24/7/365 engineering support due to the critical nature of the systems in place.

Job Description – Shift Technician

As a Shift Technician, you will play a key role in delivering reliable, high-performance engineering services across the Bank’s estate. This includes completing both planned and reactive maintenance to support uninterrupted operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) via the Planon Intelligent Work Management System (IWMS).
  • Respond to and resolve reactive maintenance tasks, prioritising safety and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct daily and periodic equipment/system checks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and repair engineering faults, assigning appropriate priority levels.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot systems including HVAC, electrical, public health, fire safety, and other essential services.
  • Support statutory and compliance testing on life safety and critical infrastructure systems.
  • Collaborate with OEM contractors during routine and emergency maintenance tasks.
  • Provide accurate updates and input to assist the Shift Leader with daily handover reports.
  • Operate as an Authorised Person (AP) for low voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems under the Bank’s Safe System of Work (SSoW).
  • Complete all required training, assessments, and performance objectives annually.
  • Promote a culture of Health & Safety, acting as a site safety ambassador.
  • Ensure service levels and compliance standards are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Support a team-oriented environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the weekly on-call rota and contribute to incident response exercises.
Essential Qualifications & Certifications
  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to achieve).

Technical Experience
  • Experience using IWMS platforms (preferably Planon) and HMI handheld devices.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC, BMS, electrical, public health, and life safety systems.
  • Prior experience as an Authorised Person (AP) for HV or LV systems.
  • Familiarity with formal Safe Systems of Work.
  • Strong understanding of statutory obligations and compliance for building infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and system schematics.
Skills & Attributes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making abilities aligned with procedures.
  • Analytical, solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset and proactive attitude.
  • High professional standards and attention to detail.
