Job description

About the Job: An electrical engineer with basic mechanical skills position will report directly to the engineering manager. The role involves assisting in all engineering activities, liaising with the internal departments to carry out installation, testing, operation, maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain all site electrical / mechanical equipment in relation to machinery, buildings, support services and utilities to the required legislative standards, safety and business requirements.
  • Reactive maintenance to plant breakdowns and ancillary equipment, limiting production downtime to a minimum.
  • Proactive machine maintenance in accordance with the PPM schedule to plant, machinery and equipment to prevent unplanned downtime. PPM will include working on both electrical and mechanical systems if competent to do so.
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement, liaise with the engineering team to implement those improvements where possible.
  • Working independently (when required) or as a team to ensure tasks are undertaken as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Occasional installation requirements, though the job will be predominantly orientated towards maintaining machinery uptime.
  • Ensure planned maintenance tasks are carried out in line with the plan, safely, cost effectively and to agreed standards and timescales, without compromising food safety or health & safety requirements.
  • Liaising with all internal departments in order to ensure any potential issues/factors affecting the business are communicated in a timely manner and escalated appropriately.
  • Ensure that all plant machinery and services are maintained, and that repairs and other requirements are planned for in a systematic and effective way.
  • Assess, develop and introduce improvements to existing engineering / production processes and techniques to minimise threat to productivity, food safety risks and health & safety risks.
  • To work with the Production and Technical departments to ensure the smooth running of the manufacturing process and provide solutions to potential problems that may occur in order to meet all customer expectations.
Food Safety Requirements
  • To carry out all employee obligations in compliance with the Food Safety Act 1990 and all other subsequent legislation relating to Food Safety including full compliance with Flemings Food Safety polices and internal procedures.
  • Where necessary, liaise with the Technical Manager / Quality Manager regarding food safety, quality or legality issues and report any issues to the site Technical Manager / Site Director.
  • Ensure a high level of hygiene standard is consistently achieved and good manufacturing practices are maintained throughout the manufacturing areas and continuous improvements made where applicable. Hygiene audit action points to be addressed on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Food Safety incident reports to be actioned in a timely manner and closed out and signed off appropriately.
Health & Safety Requirements
  • To carry out all employee obligations in compliance with the Health & Safety at work act 1974 and all other subsequent legislation relating to Health and Safety and full compliance with Zeelandia's Health and Safety policy and internal procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe working practices are up to date, issued and reviewed and legally compliant.
  • All accidents and near misses to be reported immediately to the Health & Safety Manager & Officer.
  • Health and safety reported incidents to be actioned in a timely manner closed out & signed off appropriately.
  • Carry out critical checks to comply with L8 legislation.
