As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Nottingham, you'll lead the design and delivery of electrical systems across a variety of building projects. This electrical engineer role involves overseeing design from concept through to completion, ensuring compliance with industry standards and sustainability frameworks. You'll analyse technical challenges, perform engineering calculations, supervise project work, and conduct end-of-work inspections to ensure quality, efficiency and affordability throughout every project lifecycle. Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of electrical systems across industrial, retail, heritage and residential building projects, ensuring full compliance with relevant codes, standards and regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including electrical schematics, layouts and technical specifications for building services.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, architectural, structural) to achieve integrated and coordinated building services solutions.
  • Conduct site inspections and technical reviews to verify installation quality and ensure design compliance with UK building regulations.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering professional development within the team.
  • Engage in client, contractor and stakeholder meetings to communicate design intent, resolve technical issues and ensure project alignment.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, sustainable design practices and industry advancements to drive innovation and continuous improvement in electrical engineering methodologies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (degree preferred).
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical services drawings (essential).
  • Experience with Revit MEP (preferred), or willingness to develop BIM skills.
  • Proven experience delivering detailed electrical design at RIBA Stage 4 and beyond.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrical design engineering within the building services consultancy sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical design principles, BS 7671 wiring regulations, building regulations and applicable industry standards.
  • Proficient in industry-standard design software including AutoCAD, Revit and electrical calculation tools.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with clients.
  • Full UK driving licence (beneficial for site visits across Nottinghamshire and the Midlands).
