Technical Support Office- Assistant Specialist

Role Purpose

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Naval Technical Support Office as an Assistant Specialist in September 2026. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to build practical engineering and assurance skills within the naval and marine sectors guided by seasoned maritime professionals.

As part of Lloyds Register’s Global Naval and Marine Structures Team you will contribute to projects supporting the design, construction and life‑cycle management of naval vessels, warships, submarines and supporting infrastructure. This team provides independent technical assurance and consultancy for both newbuild and operational naval assets serving defence organisations, shipyards and government clients worldwide.

Work Environment

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural assessments and review design documentation in accordance with defined specifications and scope, considering budget constraints and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare reports, certificates or documents in an agreed format and within specified timelines.
  • Collect, analyse and present data effectively.
  • Establish and maintain technical file systems as well as manage computer databases, providing administrative support as needed.
  • Communicate customer feedback promptly and effectively.
  • Perform tasks in compliance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • Propose suggestions to enhance service delivery effectiveness by recommending changes to processes or work scope, aiming to reduce appraisal efforts where feasible.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to uphold a high level of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
Required Qualifications
  • A BEng degree or equivalent qualification from a tertiary institution recognised by Lloyds Register in a relevant field of engineering.
  • Proficiency in the English language, including adeptness in report writing for technical reports.
  • Profound knowledge of structural engineering design principles essential for designing and analysing steel or concrete structures; familiarity with offshore structures is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards, and with the procedures and practices of Classification, Certification, Verification and Validation applicable to design appraisal services concerning the ocean economy.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop skills in the Marine Industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
