I am Alice Smilie, the Operational Manager of the John Radcliffe Pharmacy, leading our hardworking Dispensary team in supplying in‑patient, outpatient and discharge medication to patients at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. This post offers a unique opportunity to provide technical support to the Dispensary while developing your role as an Education and Training Technician.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Registered Pharmacy Technician to join the team as a Dispensary and Education and Training Technician. This role is ideal for a qualified Technician with a Dispensary background, looking to progress their career and with an interest in education and training.

In this role you will work closely with the Education and Training team to receive training to become an assessor, completing your CAVA award. You will then mentor and supervise Level 2 apprentices in the dispensary, develop expertise in apprenticeships, collaborate with the OUHFT apprenticeship team, and be involved in the recruitment of apprentices. You will also have the chance to develop leadership skills by working jointly with the Pharmacy Operational team, providing key coordination support to the Dispensary team, and ensuring all new staff are appropriately inducted.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will work jointly with the Pharmacy Operational, Education and Training, and Dispensary teams in the following key areas:

Training
  • Act as an NVQ assessor upon completion of the CAVA award, working with the Education and Training Team to assess and support our team of apprentices through their Level 2 Pharmacy Services qualification.
  • Progress to become an Internal Verifier (IQA) following relevant experience.
  • Mentor and supervise the Apprentice Assistants.
  • Coordinate inductions and provide practical support and training to our pre‑registration Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants.
  • Take part in the recruitment process of Apprentices and Pre‑registration Pharmacy Technicians, and support these staff through their induction and probationary periods.
Dispensary
  • Provide regular dispensing/checking duties as directed by the Senior Technicians.
  • Serve as Dispensary Coordinator within the dispensary, both with the Senior Technicians and, in their absence, on weekends.
  • Monitor workload and track screen to support the TTO KPI.
  • Provide support to the team with regard to resolving CD balance discrepancies.
