Director of Sales – Overview

Responsibilities
- Sets goals and objectives for team members to achieve operational results
- Manages a department or small unit including multiple teams
- Influences others to accept practices and approaches and communicates with executive leadership
- Owns short to mid‑term execution of functional strategy and operational direction of the Sales team
- Leads and prioritizes daily activities of the team
- Provides mentorship, coaching, and development to foster a collaborative and dynamic team
- Coordinates cross‑functional communication to align initiatives and strategies for efficiency
- Establishes sales objectives by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for the department
- Attends tradeshows, reviews professional publications, establishes personal networks, and participates in professional associations to maintain professional and technical knowledge
- Maintains relationships with key clients and mentors sales representatives to negotiate and close deals
- Develops strategy, tactics, sales plans, and profit targets to identify and set annual business unit and territory plans
- Identifies key market trends and discusses impact on GTMS with the Leadership team
- Projects expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products, creating strategies and tactics to maximize conversion of leads to contracts
- Manages the efficiency and effectiveness of sales processes, including proposal generation and contract creation and processing
- Maintains sales volume, product mix, and selling price by monitoring current supply and demand, trends, economic indicators, and competitors
- Analyzes costs, competition, and supply and demand to make suggestions regarding selling prices
- Maximizes new business development opportunities
Qualifications

- Ability to address complex problems requiring extensive investigation and analysis

- Strong organizational skills to give the team direction
- Professional presence suitable for meetings, in‑person or via email, and at external events
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Proven ability to articulate distinct aspects of services and products
- Ability to present key materials, negotiate with partners, and build strong interpersonal relationships
- Strong ability to interact positively with peers, subordinates, management, and external contacts
- Capacity to work across multiple business units and target markets to drive results
- Ability to select, coach, and, when necessary, dismiss staff
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent business experience
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of managerial experience
- Experience coordinating trade and customer events
Working Conditions
- 0‑10% travel may be required
