Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Diabetic Maternity Support Worker to join our maternity team. The successful candidate will work closely with midwives, diabetes specialist nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide care and support to pregnant women with diabetes, ensuring they receive safe, personalised, and effective care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

You will play a key role in supporting women to manage their diabetes, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and helping them navigate their care pathway. This role involves both direct patient contact and administrative duties to support smooth service delivery.

As a member of our team, you will be professional, safe, and compassionate for women, babies and their families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team in an environment that is open, supportive, and empowering.

Responsibilities
  • Support pregnant women with diabetes during antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, under the supervision of registered midwives.
  • Assist with monitoring blood glucose levels, recording results, and reporting concerns to the clinical team.
  • Provide practical support and health education on diet, exercise, and self-monitoring in line with care plans.
  • Offer emotional support, reassurance, and clear communication to women and their families.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely follow-up appointments, investigations, and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in maternity records and electronic systems.
  • Assist with arranging and facilitating diabetes education sessions for pregnant women.
  • Support in coordinating care plans, including liaising with community midwives, hospital clinics, and other relevant services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies at all times.
  • Participate in training, supervision, and service improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
