Role Overview
This role bridges technical drawing, ERP administration, and cross-functional coordination. The Design & Engineering Support Engineer is responsible for creating and managing wiring harness drawings, maintaining engineering documentation, supporting business development with cost estimates, and providing day-to-day technical support to manufacturing, procurement, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drawing
- Create new wiring harness drawings based on customer specifications using suitable CAD tools.
- Revise and update existing technical drawings as required.
- Prepare engineering documentation such as Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and New Part Number records.
- Liaise with customers to review and clarify technical drawing requirements.
ERP & Administration (SAP)
- Load new job numbers into SAP, including top-level and sub-assembly structures.
- Coordinate with the India support team to raise requests for new raw material part codes.
- Create and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Labour Hour estimates in SAP for new and existing jobs.
- Provide unit pricing details to the Accounts team for Asset Value (AV) setup.
Experience with SAP is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided for engineering-specific functions.
Business Development Support
- Develop BOMs and labour hour breakdowns for use in customer quotations.
- Provide technical input during the quotation process, including sourcing alternative components and resolving supplier/customer queries.
- Participate in pre-bid and technical meetings as the engineering representative.
Cross-Functional & Customer Support
- Collaborate with Manufacturing to investigate and resolve build-related issues.
- Act as a liaison between Manufacturing and customers for technical queries during production.
- Support the Purchasing team on supplier-related technical issues when needed.
- Attend internal meetings, including contract reviews, to provide technical insights.
Qualifications & Experience
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- 2–5 years of experience in a design/engineering support role within the aerospace or automotive manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in CAD tools, with an understanding of wiring harness design. (Experience with Harnware or similar is beneficial but not required.)
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems is desirable; training will be provided.
