Job summary

A leading theatrical production company is seeking a Deputy Head of Automation for the London production of Phantom of the Opera. The ideal candidate will have experience in large-scale musical productions and a senior role within a small team. Responsibilities include managing the Automation department, operating the automation desk, and ensuring safety standards are upheld. Responsibilities

  • Assist the head of department in the co-ordinating the efficient management of the Automation department.
  • Cover the backstage automation plot for performances, rehearsals and other events.
  • Operate the automation desk for performances, rehearsals and other events.
  • Cover the Head of Automation when they are absent.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations for automation equipment.
  • Maintain all automation equipment to a high standard.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of show running documents.
  • Be prepared to teach or learn any show plots when necessary.
  • Attend meetings or training courses as required.
  • Provide accurate time sheets on a weekly basis.
  • Attend promotional events as required.
  • Comply with the Producer’s health and safety policies.
  • Uphold and promote the Producer’s child protection policy.
  • Comply with the Producer’s policies and procedures.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties asked for by the Producer.

Skills

Experience in large-scale theatrical and entertainment automation systems.
Strong communications skills both written and verbal.
A proven ability to calmly and practically troubleshoot technical issues.
A working knowledge of current health and safety regulations and working practices.
Comfortable working at height and using power tools.

Cameron Mackintosh Ltd and LW Entertainment are looking for a talented Deputy Head of Automation for the London production of Phantom of the Opera.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience befitting of a large-scale musical of the highest calibre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the head of department in the co-ordinating the efficient management of the Automation department;
  • Cover the backstage automation plot for performances, rehearsals and other events as required;
  • Operate the automation desk for performances, rehearsals and other events as required;
  • Cover the Head of Automation when they are absent;
  • Ensure that the automation and wider technical teams respect the standards and regulations pertaining to the safe operation of automation equipment and apply safe working practices;
  • Thoroughly comprehend and help maintain all automation equipment to a high standard;
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of up-to-date show running documents and maintenance records;
  • Be prepared to teach or learn any show plots when necessary;
  • Attend meetings or training courses as required;
  • Provide accurate time sheets on a weekly basis;
  • Attend promotional events such as publicity and photographic calls, press and media interviews and press junkets as required;
  • Be aware of the Producer’s health and safety policies and ensuring that requirements in relation to health and safety are met within the department;
  • Uphold and promote at all times the Producer’s child protection policy and related procedures and guidelines;
  • Comply with the Producer’s policies and procedures in force from time to time, including but not limited to the Producer’s policies on Equal Opportunities, Bullying and Harassment, Safeguarding, Social Media, Data Protection.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties asked for by the Producer
