Job description

We are looking for a Locum Dental Practitioner/Locum Dentist to cover an assignment with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) at Bulford Dental Centre, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

This is a locum role (15 hours per week) and the successful candidate will deliver an exceptional standard of care to MoD service personnel.

Pay rates:

  • PAYE – £48.68 per hour
  • Umbrella – £55.98 per hour
Job description:
  • Work independently and provide a full range of dental treatment to maintain oral health, and undertake related general administrative duties to improve and maintain dental health and operational fitness of personnel.
  • Assist the Senior Dental Officer (SDO) when present, or operate independently to achieve dental fitness targets for all entitled personnel, as detailed in the SG Policy and Standards Document (P&SD).
  • Ensure that not fewer than 6.5 hours per day in two sessions are set aside for direct patient contact.
  • Ensure that all treatment is correctly recorded on the electronic health record and any relevant FMed documents.
Essential Requirements / Qualifications / Experience:
  • Fully registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) without restrictions.
  • Certified completion of Foundation Training in Dentistry in the UK, or evidence of at least 12 months full‑time postgraduate clinical experience in a primary dental care setting, or qualified before foundation training became compulsory in the NHS.
  • Hold valid suitable and appropriate indemnity insurance with a recognised dental defence organisation.
  • Provide evidence of clinical currency in accordance with JSP 950 Leaflet 4‑1‑4 Returning to Clinical Practice, specifically a minimum of two clinical sessions per week over the last 15 months.
  • Complete GDC highly recommended Continuing Professional Development (CPD) including medical emergencies, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection.
  • Be trained and current in emergency and resuscitation procedures, having practised and tested these procedures at least annually in accordance with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines and JSP 950 Leaflet 4‑6‑1 DMS CPR Standards and Training.
  • Have undertaken the additional health clearance checks for clinicians required to perform Exposure Prone Procedures (in accordance with the Department of Health policy entitled “Health clearance for tuberculosis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV: New Healthcare Workers”).
  • Be in date and able to provide certification for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Safeguarding Adults up to and including Level 3 training.
