Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will advise on UK data protection laws, support the DPO, manage data breaches, DPIAs and regulatory reporting, and liaise with regulators and business units to improve privacy compliance.

You will work across the organisation to ensure robust data protection, respond to DSARs, and drive continuous improvement in privacy programs while collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior

Qualifications

• Proven data protection advice experience in Compliance/Legal at specialist level.
• Strong knowledge of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Skilled in researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information and presenting it clearly.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, with influence and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support maintenance of Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries, ensuring robust investigations.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance and stakeholders to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
