Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure compliance with UK Data Protection laws, advise senior leaders, and support the DPO in statutory duties, including DPIAs and breach oversight.

You will liaise with regulators, manage DSARs, and drive improvements across data protection processes, while partnering with stakeholders to mitigate risk and protect privacy across the business.

Qualifications

• Experience providing data protection guidance within Compliance and/or Legal functions.
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and interpret complex regulatory information and present findings.
• Skilled at interpreting regulatory guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, with negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting to senior forums.
• Serve as a contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters.
• Develop second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Engage with the ICO on complaints and regulatory inquiries, ensuring robust investigations.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve privacy issues.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
