Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure compliance with UK Data Protection laws, advise senior leaders, support the DPO, and drive initiatives from DPIAs to data breach oversight.

You will act as a trusted advisor on DSARs, regulatory inquiries and reporting, coordinating with ICO and stakeholders across the business to improve privacy controls and processes.

Qualifications

• Proven data protection advisory experience within Legal/Compliance functions.
• Strong knowledge of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit/retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time‑sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Ability to research, analyse and interpret regulatory information and present it clearly.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance accurately.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA) maintenance.
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop second‑line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with ICO on complaints and regulatory enquiries and coordinate investigations.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance and stakeholders to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
