Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will advise on UK data protection laws, support the DPO in statutory duties, and lead key initiatives from breach management to DPIA oversight.

You will act as a trusted advisor to business units and senior leaders, ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in a dynamic, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Provides data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions.
• Understands ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Able to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Researches, analyses and interprets regulatory information and presents it clearly.
• Chairs or contributes to regulatory discussions with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance to the business on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA)
• Assist the business in undertaking Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA)
• Lead assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches including MI reporting to senior forums
• Act as a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries with robust investigations and responses
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues and stakeholders to resolve privacy issues
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency
