Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You’ll ensure UK Data Protection compliance, advise business units and support the DPO, leading initiatives from DPIAs to data breach oversight.

You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the business, navigate regulatory expectations, and drive continuous improvement in privacy practices within a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance and/or Legal functions.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Experience researching, analysing and presenting complex regulatory information.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance with accuracy.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes to the business.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist DPIAs (Data Protection Impact Assessments).
• Oversee personal data breach assessment, oversight and reporting, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as primary contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory inquiries; ensure robust investigations.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues across the business to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
