Job description

Job Title: Data Modeller

Duration: Temporary from January to end of March

Company: Warwickshire County Council

Hours: Monday to Friday - 37 hours per week

Location: Remote

Rate: 360 per day (Inside IR35)

Start Date: January 2026

About the Role

Are you skilled in analysing complex datasets and building clear, meaningful scenario models? Warwickshire County Council is seeking a Data Modeller to support our energy transition planning work. You will play a key role in developing future energy system scenarios that explore the shift from gas to electricity and the potential introduction of hydrogen across the region. Working as part of the Energy and Net Zero team, you will use prepared datasets and a bespoke GIS tool to build approximately four modelled scenarios, helping shape strategic decisions for a more sustainable future. You'll work collaboratively with internal experts for guidance, but you will be comfortable producing high-quality analytical outputs independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse and interpret existing energy system datasets to model future scenarios.
  • Build and refine Excel-based scenario models, incorporating varying assumptions and demand patterns.
  • Access and review spatial datasets using a bespoke GIS tool (training provided).
  • Present scenario outputs clearly through structured tables, data visualisations, and concise written commentary.
  • Work alongside internal team members to ensure assumptions and outputs are evidence-based.
  • Contribute to delivery of the Stage 5 programme milestone by end of March.
About You

You will have a strong analytical mindset and excellent data manipulation skills, with the ability to interpret datasets and extrapolate future trends. While prior experience in the energy sector is not required, you must be confident in working with complex datasets and building scenario models.

Essential
  • Advanced Excel skills (modelling, forecasting, scenario building).
  • Ability to work independently and deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Strong numerical reasoning and structured analytical approach.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with GIS tools (useful but training can be provided).
  • Experience in modelling, forecasting, infrastructure planning, or environmental analysis.
