Damp & Mould Compliance Officer - Housing Services | Interim | 3-month contract | Letchworth Garden City
£18.06 per hour (PAYE)
Why This Role Matters
Damp and mould present serious health risks to residents. In this role, you'll help ensure properties are safe, compliant and well-maintained, supporting Housing Officers and contractors to address issues early, meet regulatory expectations and deliver positive outcomes for tenants.
What You'll Be Doing
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records relating to damp and mould cases, property hazards and compliance activity.
- Monitor, track and support the resolution of reported damp and mould issues, ensuring actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Carry out inspections related to damp, mould and general health and safety, including pre- and post-works checks.
- Support Housing Officers in implementing actions arising from inspections, risk assessments and contractor reports.
- Liaise with contractors to coordinate remedial works and monitor progress to completion.
- Maintain central compliance records including fire safety, damp and mould actions and inspection outcomes.
- Conduct regular visual inspections and compliance checks across shared and general needs housing.
- Support residents to understand health, safety and damp prevention guidance, escalating concerns where required.
- Assist with enforcement activity, including documenting breaches and preparing follow-up correspondence.
- Provide compliance information to support risk assessments and internal reporting.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, contributing to team objectives and service improvement.
What We're Looking For
- At least two years' experience within housing, supported housing, property services or a health & safety environment.
- Experience dealing with damp and mould issues, property hazards or compliance activity.
- Strong inspection and record-keeping skills, with confidence using spreadsheets and databases.
- Experience carrying out and documenting property or accommodation inspections.
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures within housing settings.
- Confident, customer-focused communication skills when working with tenants and contractors.
- Strong organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage workloads to deadlines.
